MONTY LEWIS
MMonty Lewis grew up with the influence of rocks in his life. His father was an underground coal miner on the east coast of Canada. "Our lives were influenced by talk of the black rock (coal) being taken from 12 miles under the Atlantic Ocean. The thought that rocks could ever become gemstones never entered my mind until 1992. I was walking along the shores of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia, Canada and the play of light on the beach was striking. I was struck by the array of colored stones and remember that moment when I wanted to help these gems of the sea more appreciated and beautiful". This is where he started to become an avid rock collector and soon learned to cut and polish these tiny stones into gems. Since that time, his hobby has turned into a small part time business and is he now cutting high end and rare gemstones for several high end jewelers both locally and internationally. Not only does he cut his own gemstones, but he has also gained a very fine reputation for providing his jewelry designer-clientele with high quality gemstones and beads.
Monty, has gained such a fine reputation not only for his own designer cabochons but also for his knowledge and for his rare and unique gemstone collections. Due to this he is sought after for speaking engagements, lapidary demonstrations and for his participation in international Gem and Mineral Shows. Furthermore, when time permits, he teaches Gem Cutting Courses at the very reputable and internationally reknown New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in which he is also an Honorary Fellow. He currently resides in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada with his wife, Lynda, and two sons. He thoroughly enjoys gem cutting part time while ministering full time. He has five children.

MELISSA MURPHY
Living in Goose Bay, Labrador for over four years had been a blessing to Melissa Murphy Desrochers. It was here that she started her collection of Labradorite stones and discovered a hidden passion in Lapidary and Jewelry Art. Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, it was here that she resided until graduating from the University of New Brunswick and then started her career in the Healthcare Industry. After years of travelling and enjoying a successful Professional Sales Career in various provinces in Canada, she made the decision to stay at home and raise her beautiful children.
Searching for a career which would allow her some flexibilty within her family, she discovered a passion in Lapidary and Jewelry Design. While in Labrador, she discovered a beautiful rough piece of Labradorite in a local craftstore and she became fascinated with it's amazing flash of colors. She was inspired to work with this beautiful stone and was eager to learn how to cut and polish it. This lead her to two very influencial Lapidary Artists, namely John Goudie, a well-known Labradorite carver from Labrador who provided her with much support and advice and Monty Lewis. Monty became not only her mentor and family friend but now has become her business partner in Mel Mont Creations. With his expertise, support, and generousity and while still living in Labrador, she grew her small Labradorite business and had even created her own website. In Labrador, Melissa has started to develop a fine reputation for her Handcrafted Labradorite Pendants and for her Beaded Labradorite Jewelry. She recently has moved back to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada with her husband and two young children.
