CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY SUPPLIED WITH EACH PIECE. Guarenteed All Natural Burmite. Burmite has been said to be the hardest, oldest, rarest, and most valuable Amber in the world and is now being mined again after an absence of almost 70 years. Burmese Amber or Burmite comes from the upper Hukawng of Northern Burma and has been unavailable in the past due to the political situation there. Let us consider the rarity of Burmite and the small amount that has ever been mined. When Burmite was last mined from 1898 - 1941, the annual yield was only 1 ton. A paper by Grimaldi et al. suggests that the total yield ever mined would never have exceeded 80 tons. Compare this to the Baltic Amber deposit that has been known to yield in excess of 500 tons per year. Even Today, with the mining being resumed, the company announced they will yield only 1/2 a ton in 2006. Furthermore, whatever Burmite was mined in the past has rarely found its way into the western market as most of it disappeared into Asia years ago. The age of Burmite dates back to the Cretaceous Age which is when the later dinosaurs roamed the earth. This means that Burmite is 100 million years old compared to the younger Baltic Ambers which are said to be up to 65 milion years old. The beauty of Burmite is unquestional with it's red hues, flashy shine and its beautiful high polish. Burmite's hardness measures 2.5-3 on the Moh's scale. Burmite is truly very rare and unique! .
